Hill climb

The club provides the communication for the South East Car Club's "Hill Climb out of the Valley Lake Reserve". This is the second time we have done this and it is becoming a very successful event.

Beam building activity

On Friday 2 October 2007 the club held a Beam Building Night. People had a choice of 2M and 70cm beams of 10 elements, 3 elements or 5 elements. For the longer beams the dimensions were calculated on the spot with VK5DJ's Yagi Calculator for DL6WU beams. Photos provided by VK5AKJ

Happy 80th birthday Bill

Popular member Bill Coates, VK5WCC celebrated his 80th birthday in early September. Club members decided that he should not be allowed to pass this milestone without a special show with his friends. So with some plotting between Rhonda, his sister in law, and Sandy (President David's XYL) a surprise birthday party was planned for the night of 1st September at the Tantanoola Tiger Hotel.

We're not sure who was most surprised when a mix up of times meant that the 30 club members waited and waited and waited for Bill and Rhonda, we ordered our meal and ate that and waited. People were forbidden to go to the toilet in case they gave the game away by walking past the entrance door of the pub.... salads were banned for the same reason. But at long last....

Surprise! Bill with Sister in Law Rhonda.

Now for the birthday cake

To avoid false teeth landing on the cake President David insisted on a phone book fan to blow out the candles

President's Award Recipients 2007

The club president made two awards at the AGM in August.

The President's Award went to Trevor Niven, VK5NC in recognition of his work as our examination coordinator over several years. Trevor has overseen all the exams, worked as a trainer, organised papers, ensured materials were sent away and coordinated the two other examiners. Well done Trevor and thanks for your work.

The Roy Goodwin (ex VK5AXV) Foundation Licensee Award was made to Bill VK5FWEJ. Bill has been very active on the local repeater frequencies. He has been quick to welcome newcomers and visitors to our area in a bright and friendly way. His willingness to provide signal reports for the repeater team has been appreciated.
