Eion's Tower

Paula (VK5FOXX) has reported that work is progressing! Well done Eion and Paula, we're looking forward to some big signals

Eion VK5KEE painting cross braces (good haircut Eion, is that grey paint or hair colour?). We know that Paula did a fair bit of the painting - the top is a bright red colour - nice touch Paula.

SERG BBQs at VK5MC

On Saturday 10 January 2009 Eric Jamieson VK5LP (ex The Voice of the Hills, now The Voice of the Lake) visited Chris VK5MC. SERG took the opportunity to have another BBQ and Chris the opportunity to show how Eric's dish turned out.

During the visit Chris worked Doug VK3UM on 1296 EME CW and SSB. Well done Chris.

BBQ number 1

On 24 November, the SERG went to Chris VK5MCs to see his EME (Earth Moon Earth) setup.

A planned sched with Doug VK3UM had to be cancelled due to high winds at Doug's home so we had to be content with listening to our own echoes.

Chris is in the fortunate position of not having to worry about neighbours as he lives on his farm at Hatherleigh, 15km north of Millicent. Now that Chris is active again the club will need to re-instate the remote control facility for its 1296 and 432MHz beacons as the moon often rises over Mt Graham (about 17km away and line of sight) so the beacons can cause some problems for Chris's receiver.

11m diameter looks small when it's up doesn't it? Believe us, it isn't.
The stone building to the left contains the main TX while behind that
is a small shed with the hydraulics.

Chris VK5MC at the operating desk. The TX is in a separate shack (see above).
Near Chris's right hand is the small box containing the VK5DJ beam control system for tracking/steering.

The old way of determining direction used a Gray coded wheel

Although currently running 30W output on 1296, Chris plans to get this little beauty going with up to 300W out.

Paula VK5FOXX receives the Roy Goodwin Award for Foundation Licensees from President David VK5HDW.
Paula is a great ambassador for amateur radio and her bright and cheery voice is often heard on the local repeaters.

Tony VK5ZAI receives the Silver Pinecone award. The silver pinecone award is received for the second most frequent timeouts on the 2M repeater.

And here is our champ, the receiver of the GOLDEN pinecone award

Col, VK5DK
What an amazing achievement that others can only aspire to.

"Oh heck, I was hardly trying!"
