SERG Examinations Page

The South East Radio Group provides a licence examination service to interested members of the community. The club has copies of the "Foundation Licence Manual, Your entry into Amateur Radio". These are available for $20.00 at club meetings held in the SERG Clubrooms, Old Reidy Park Junior Primary School Buildings, O'Halloran Tce, Mount Gambier.
Our postal address is PO Box 1103, Mount Gambier SA 5290.
In 2011 Tim VK5AV, our WIA registered assessor with the assistance of Trevor VK5NC, John VK5DJ and others presented a Foundation Licence Course, culminating in an exam.
We are pleased to say that it resulted in all candidates being successful and there are now four new Foundation calls in the area. Congratulations to all.

Those wishing to gain a Standard or Advanced licence are invited to enrol with the Radio Electronics School in Queensland here and obtain the two CD set for $25. Full details are available at the website. This is a responsibility of the individual. At the conclusion of the learning program the club examiners, Tim VK5AV, John VK5DJ David VK5DG will conduct the examination.

The SERG is offering tuition in two ways:
  • by contacting the volunteer tutors Col Hutchesson VK5DK (87255527), or John Drew VK5DJ (87332138) or the club secretary at vk5sr@wia.org.au

  • a regular Friday night session will be held to assist people struggling with an area of learning. These sessions will be held on the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month at the clubrooms at 7.30pm. Volunteer helpers will be on hand to provide the support and help you over any hard to understand bits.

  • before each ordinary meeting at 7.00pm a SERG member will be on hand to help with problems until the club meeting starts at 7.30pm. Club meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month except December and January where only one meeting is held for each month - the first Friday of December only and the 3rd Friday only for January.

  • in addition to the Foundation Handbook from the WIA via SERG, CDs available from the Electronics and Radio School, Fred Swainston sells the Radio Theory Handbook for Amateur Operators. This is available from Fred for AUS$60-45, see Fred's website at http://www.silvertrain.com.au/
